Celtics Get Their 60th

(Photo by Brian Babineau/NBAE via Getty Images)

The Boston Celtics got their 60th win of the season by defeating the Indiana Pacers 92-77. The last time the Celtics won 60 games in a season, Leon was 2 years old and just learning how to dunk.

The Celtics defense was just too much for the mediocre Pacers, and it was never really a game because of it. Everyone played pretty well, but of course Leon once again was the MVP in this one. Powe scored 14 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and had many Tommy Points. I mean what else can I say? I try to give the player of the game award to someone else but Leon just keeps taking it. I keep waiting for Powe to have a bad stretch but it just doesn't happen. He can't mess up, it's really amazing. Hopefully Leon has solidified the 6th man spot for the playoffs, it appears that he has. It will really behoove the team for Doc Rivers to keep Powe as the first guy coming off the bench.

Things are looking great right now. I can't see any team beating the Celtics 4 times out of 7 times in a playoff series. But I don't want to jynk the Celtics yet.

Leon leads Celtics Past Heat

(Photo by Steve Babineau/NBAE via Getty Images)

The Boston Celtics had a record setting game Sunday by holding the Miami Heat to an NBA record low 17 field goals in their 88-62 win.

The MVP for this record setting game was of course Leon Powe once again. Leon lead the Celtics with 17 points and a career high 13 rebounds. I wish I could say that was Leon's career game, but I can't. Leon wasn't even on fire like he can often be. That was about half of what Powe is capable of doing on any given night. But despite it not being his best game, I still have to give a tip of the hat to Leon for a great performance. I certainly see Leon being a 20/10 guy in the near future, and I hope his minuets will continue to increase as the regular season comes to a close.

Great job by Leon's supporting cast as well. The starters got a lot of rest in this game, and the bench did a fine job shutting down the Heat, despite the lack of quality players.

Celtics Exterminate Hornets

(Photo by Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE via Getty Images)

The Boston Celtics got a very nice win Friday by defeating the west leading New Orleans Hornets 112-92.
This was a tight game until the Celtics started to pull away in the 3rd quarter. Leon played a key part in the 3rd quarter run on the defensive side of the ball. Powe was able to take All-Star David West out of his game by drawing three offensive fouls on West in less than 3 minuets. You won't see many guys in the NBA draw charges better than Leon Powe, he runs a clinic on how to get your body in position to draw a foul.

Leon was able to get the job done on offense and on the boards as well, scoring 12 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in just 19 minuets. Although I won't be completely happy until Leon is a starter, it is nice to see Leon coming off the bench as a 6th man. He gives a real boost to the team, and that's what a 6th man is suppose to do, bring a lot of energy!

This was a game that really had to boost the already high confidence of the Celtics. Beating the best team in the West is quite an accomplishment. It was another nice win for the Celtics, and another very nice game for Leon Powe.

Celtics end two game slide

(AP Photo/Winslow Townson)

The Boston Celtics ended their 2 game slide with a nice 117-97 win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. For whatever reason when these two teams collide, it turns into an awkward game. I watch both teams play a lot and something is just different when they play each other. I just can't figure it out. But I can't complain about it because the Celtics took home a 20 point win.

Leon Powe did get 12 minuets in the first half which I was happy about, but didn't get any in the second. I understand Doc wanted Big Baby to play on Shaq, but I still would have liked Leon who has always done a good job on Shaq to play a little in the second half. I like Davis's hustle but I feel like its unproductive hustle at times. He can't do anything in the flow of the offense and that hurts his chances of playing more.

Leon didn't hit his shots like he usually does but still had an effective game when he played. He brought his toughness in the paint and made things difficult for Suns. What I thought was interesting was Leon for the first time in his career was actually a guy the Suns had to pay attention to. Usually all the focus in on the big three on offense, but the Suns really made sure they did let Leon touch the ball down low when he played.

I of course have to comment on the play of the game. Leon made a steal and was on the ground as you can see from the photo. Powe could not find an outlet man so instead of taking a 3 second call he shot the ball from his knees and drew a foul. I was disappointed he didn't make the shot for the three point play because that would have gone down as the greatest play in Celtics history. Right up there with the Havlicek and Bird's steals as the great Celtics plays. If only we still had Johnny Most to make the call on the Leon Powe steal and shot from the knees. Somewhere in heaven, Johnny was screaming "Leon stole the ball and shot it from his knees"! Alright, well maybe I'm going a little overboard with the greatness of the play. But it was still a once in a career type moment and it came from a true hustle player. It will be on Leon's highlight reel for the rest of his life.

Leon Powe, the Best Player from the 2006 Draft?

REUTERS/Richard Carson (UNITED STATES)

I was thinking the other day, I could give someone a million reasons of why Leon Powe is the best player from the 2006 NBA Draft. But then I realized most of those reasons were based on opinions and not on fact. So as a true Leon Powe fan should do, I did some research and found statistical evidence to why Leon is the best player from the 2006 draft.

1. Leon leads all sophomores in points per 48 minuets with 25.6 points per 48. Edging out Rudy Gay and rookie of the year Brandon Roy. This is especially impressive considering Leon plays with the big three and doesn't get a lot of shots. Roy and Gay take the majority of the shots for their teams.

2. Leon is in second place for sophomores for rebounds per 48 minuets (minimum 12 minuets per game) with 13.1 rebounds. Lets remember that Leon is only 6'8 so forgive him for only being in second place in this category.

3. Leon leads all sophomore players in field goal percentage. Leon is shooting .577 from the field.

The stats don't lie, Leon is the best scorer and second best rebounder from his draft class. Long story short, the statistics prove that Leon Powe is the best player from the 2006 NBA Draft.

Sixers Stun Celtics at Home

(Photo by Brian Babineau/NBAE via Getty Images)

Leon Powe's 16 points and team leading 7 rebounds were not enough to lead the Boston Celtics passed the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers went on a 19-0 run in the 4th quarter, taking the lead and the game 95-90.

Leon, who again was the Celtics player of the game, did not get the help from the other players to finish the job against Philadelphia. The big three did a nice job, but the other role players didn't contribute and it killed the Celtics. Doc Rivers had some funny substitution patterns that probably didn't help as well but there's still no excuse for losing to the 76ers at home.

Even though the Celtics loss, I'm always proud when I see Leon show up and do his thing. There should be no more questions about Leon at this point. He's improving every time he steps on the floor. People often think Leon is just a scrap guy, but lately he's starting to show he can be a go to guy in the post. Leon's hard work with assistant coach Clifford Ray is really paying off. Hopefully Doc is paying attention so we can see more Leon as the playoff get closer.

Celtics Take Texas

(Photo by Glenn James/NBAE via Getty Images)

The Boston Celtics completed their sweep of Texas with a 94-90 win over the Dallas Mavericks. This was an ugly game at times but the Celtics got the job done. Thanks to our once again player of the game, Leon Powe. Leon didn't have a great game statistically like he had against the Rockets, but his presence was still very important.

Leon had 6 points, 2 rebounds, one block, one assist, and 78 Tommy points by my count. Another good game by Leon, and another win for the Celtics. Lets keep this train rollin!
