Celtics get big win over Detroit

The Boston Celtics had a big win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. Detroit has the second best record in the NBA, and is a potential Eastern Conference championship match for the Celtics. So a win against the Pistons is always a real confidence boost, especially since this win helped the C's win the regular season series over Detroit 2-1.

You have to give credit to two guys in this game. Kevin Garnett who scored a season high 31 points against a tough Detroit defense, and Kendrick Perkins who grabbed a career high 20 rebounds. I'm not a huge Perkins fan because he has tons of potential but doesn't put in the hard work necessary in games like Leon Powe does. But in this game and the last few, Kendrick has been working hard and it's paying off. Maybe Leon's recent increase in playing time have motivated Perk to get his butt in gear.

Speaking of Leon's increase in playing time, where did it go? All Leon has done lately is produce and now he hasn't been seeing the court. In last nights game against Detroit Leon played 1 minute. Why even embarrass Leon by only playing him 1 minute at the end of the game. Does Leon have to hit game winning shots every game to see more playing time? I mean what else does the guy have to do? He's an animal and never has a bad game. On the other hand, Glen "Baby Dick" Davis gets less rebounds and less points in more minuets than Leon but gets more playing time despite his lack of consistency. Davis at best puts up average numbers, but Powe puts up great ones. It just makes no sense to me. Glen scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 20 minuets last night. That's alright but his +/- was the worst on the team with -10 against Detroit. Just give those 20 minuets to Leon and the Boston Celtics will be NBA Champions again, I promise. Actually I can't promise because Doc Rivers will find another way to screw things up. But you get my point, more Leon=more wins!

LOL! YES! I love the Glen Davis nickname "Baby Dick" I wish that would catch on! Also Leon is getting screwed. You're absolutely right about him needing more playing time. Great web site!

Baby Dick HA! I love it. Where did you come up with that one?

Yes, right.

Leon Powe has the second highest PER on the team. He deserves way more playing time.

And not at the center position! I'd rather see him at SF than at C.

Dave, I agree ultimately Leon should not be a Center. But if that's what it takes to get him on the court then I'm all for it. He's just as good at guarding centers as Perkins.
